Protecting Your Family with Brown Family Law.
Doing What Is Right for Your Children
Divorce is frequently hardest on children. Not only do they feel the effects of the anger and hurt their parents experience, but they also can end up as pawns in the game of chess their parents play. It is always better for you and your spouse to come to an agreement on custody of your children. If you cannot, the Utah courts are forced to decide based on the best interests of the children, which may or may not be what you want. Our Salt Lake City child custody lawyers can negotiate with your spouse and his or her attorney, on your behalf, to determine which of you will have custody of your children.
At Brown Family Law, we understand how important your children are to you, and we want to make this transition as easy as possible for all of you. We encourage you and your spouse to come to an agreement on the custody of your children.
WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY AND WHY
Check out what some of our real life clients had to say about working with Brown Family Law
Navigating the legal system was a steep learning curve for me, and my situation was fairly complex. What stood out about this law firm was the way multiple attorneys collaborated to address my case. It wasn’t just one person working in isolation, but a team supporting each other to find the best path forward. That kind of collective effort is a real strength, especially in hard out complex situations like mine.
There was one issue I felt should have had a different outcome with the court. When I brought it up, the team responded in a very professional and respectful manner, which I truly appreciated. It came to my understanding that the legal system sometimes works in a way that is distant than I thought. This was presented to me in a way that someone outside of the legal system could understand.
In my experience, this firm takes the time to not only assist you, but also help you understand why things are happening. That made a big difference for me, and it’s something that really sets them apart.
I did my homework to find the perfect lawyer to represent me knowing I could have peace of mind throughout the process.
Leilani Whitmer and her paralegal Idania did not disappoint. Their professionalism and dedication to my case was outstanding and fair.
Leilani had just had surgery a few days before mediation and showed up on crutches and ready to go. That’s dedication!!!
I am highly recommending them to anyone looking to feel at ease during a difficult time.
If you want to feel taken care of, this is the right place to be. I am grateful for feeling heard and understood with the process of my divorce, and that Andrew took the time to explain things to me, even when I had to ask him to repeat concepts and legal jargon. Additionally, I'm deeply grateful that I felt Andrew advocated for me in various ways. And last but certainly not least, I'm grateful that he was a voice of reason when I was feeling emotionally charged.
Divorce is a terrible thing to go through but if you have to do it, it's good to be taken care of, which I felt I was.
The kindness, support, and compassion she showed me were invaluable during this journey. Five stars don’t do justice to Anne’s contributions; there aren't enough stars in the universe to reflect her dedication and hard work. Anne's professionalism was evident, and she helped me achieve a resolution that far exceeded my expectations. If you're seeking a reliable attorney, look no further than Brown Family Law, and trust that Anne is the right choice for you.

Salt Lake City Lawyers Handling Custody Battles
Child custody breaks down into two different areas: physical custody and legal custody. Physical custody is determined by which parent the child spends the most time with or where he or she legally resides. Legal custody is each parent’s ability to make life decisions for the child, such as medical care, school, and religious teachings. Parents may share these responsibilities through joint custody, or one parent may have sole legal and physical custody while the other has parent-time, also referred to as visitation.
Factors that will be considered by the courts in awarding custody include:
- Which parent cares for the child the majority of the time
- Which parent is most willing to facilitate the relationship with the other parent
- Each parent’s employment
- Each parent’s living situation
- Whether a parent has remarried
- Which parent can offer the most stable environment during and after the transition
While we recommend that you and your spouse come to an agreement, we understand there are times when this cannot happen. In these situations, our experienced Salt Lake City child custody lawyers will fight for what is best for you and your children.
